To use the application, an adult simply needs to focus on their intimate one-on-one quality time with their child, and sing to them, following along to the tonal sequences and matching the pitches that are programmed into the application. If you can match pitch, you can use the app. If you cannot match pitch, using the application will get you there. Your voice is a key to unlock your child’s potential and you’ve got this.
Music Ed is an intimate music education experience between parents/caregivers and their infant that is especially helpful for parents that do not believe they are musical, and can take a musical parent’s infants music education experience to the next level.
Newly coded from the ground up, Music Ed incorporates the most recent scientific and clinical research with a focus on Dr. Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory. The goal is to stimulate child’s audiation (musical thinking) and building a tonal scaffolding in the child’s brain. Music Ed is the tool that even nonmusical adult can use to teach their infant music, as if they have completed and mastered college-level aural skills courses, all while following the science-based and time-tested learning sequences to match the child’s natural neurological development.
Music Ed centers around tonal learning, the introduction of the seven main musical modes (Ionian, Aeolian, Phrygian, Dorian, Lydian, Mixolydian, and Locrian), and music learning sequences. Just as a child would learn the letters in a language, and then put those letters together to form words (which have meaning), and further put words together to communicate deeper meaning, Music Ed teaches children musical tones and tonal sequences so that the child can audiate and think musically.
Infants learn music and language best through familiar human voices, and nothing can compare to the power of a parent’s voice (particularly the mother’s voice). Dr. Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory teaches us that one of the best ways to increase an infant’s aptitude is for a parent to have one-on-one intimate time with their child singing in the various musical modes, and repeating tonal patterns for the child to audiate and explore in their minds. As caregivers share this experience with their child, Music Ed facilitates and creates an intimate musical learning connection, stimulates the parts of the infant’s brain that controls language, and increases the child’s ability in other academic areas.
Connect with your child while exploring musical modes together. There are various scales and musical exercises, along with tonal patterns of musical learning compositions by Dr. Edwin Gordon in all seven of the main musical modes. Additionally are tonal patterns and sequences from hymns and folk songs from around the world. Sing the tonal sequences in their original mode, or even explore the composition as the application transposes it into any of the other seven modes.
Meaningful engagement between caregiver and child should be your focus
Try to limit distractions
Engage multiple senses at the same time when you can (sound, eye contact, and touch)
Sing syllables that use your lips (like "bah" or "bum")
Even if your child doesn't look like they are listening, keep going. They are learning.
You've got this!
